Carson CA– For the second straight day Maria Sharapova defeated her opponent in straight sets and in under 90 minutes. Sharapova defeated 15th seed Marion Bartoli 6-1,6-2. “Why would I want to make the match any longer than I have to,” said Sharapova. “I am playing well right now, I am going to see how long this can keep going physically and mentally. Sharapova will face fellow Russian Dinara Safina in the night session for a quarterfinal match.

Serena Williams
After a grueling three sets and a first set ankle injury, Serena Williams defeated Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia 1-6,6-3,6-3. “ I felt like I got off to a slow start. I do not feel I was impressive said Williams. After winning the second set, Williams holds a 4-1 record over Hantuchova and this is the first time in all meetings where the match went three sets.
Williams will face fellow American Meghann Shaughnessy in a quarterfinal match.
